Are the words of the Bible supposed to be taken as literal or symbolic. This debate focuses on many of the prophecies, especially the book of Revelations, and I was wondering what other people’s opinions were on the subject. How should we interpret the Bible.
Literal?
Symbolic?
Both?
Post comments.
Remember that the Bible is composed of 66 varied books, ranging from poetry and parables (which you obviously don’t take literally) to history (which you do). Some parts are debatable, but I think that Revelation is pretty clearly meant to be read symbolically. A great book for your reading on Revelation is The Throne, The Lion, and The Dragon by Paul Spilsbury.
